Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute Wetland Habitat

Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI) provides a 26.2-acre nature preserve in the town of Moscow, Idaho, to community members and local wildlife alike. On the southwestern side of the property, there is a 24,352 sq. ft. historic wetland PCEI had been trying to revitalize. Three other areas of the property have natural wetlands—two on the north end of the property, and one near the outdoor classroom. All these wetlands provide stopover habitat to migrating birds, cover and resources to other species, and improve water quality in the area.

Funding has allowed PCEI to plant 1,350 native trees, shrubs, and forbs in four areas (1.35 acres in total) to improve water filtration, increase cover, and provide shade. All work was completed by PCEI staff and volunteers in 2025, to provide hands-on, service-based learning right in town and support these now thriving wetlands.
