Moyer Basin Watershed Exclosure Repair

The Salmon-Challis National Forest repaired an exclosure fence in Moyer Basin, which is a vitally important area for wildlife in the Panther Creek watershed. The area includes an elk calving ground, and it provides important brood-rearing habitat for Greater sage-grouse that migrate over in the spring from breeding grounds along the Main Salmon River. Moyer Basin is also recognized by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game for its importance to mule deer and pronghorn. The exclosure fence was installed in 1992 to protect a severely degraded small stream channel and allow an associated riparian area and meadow to recover. Recovery has been successful over the decades, but the fence had fallen into disrepair, and the riparian area was showing signs of decline. Repair of the exclosure was necessary to restore the fence to a functioning condition and continue to protect the riparian area.
